Personal Memorabilia from the man we knew as Chuck Blair – Page 3

An undated New Year photo - but is that a wedding cake in the centre? It looks rather posh for a New Year celebration. It's difficult to tell what Chuck and the young lady on his left are doing, but they are not cutting the cake. They are holding a box. (They could be drawing raffle tickets.)

The Staccatos who signed the card were Les Emmerson, Vern Craig, Mike Belanger, Rick Smithers and Brian Simm.

The band was from Ottawa and enjoyed numerous hits in Canada, including the harmonious 'Half Past Midnight' before evolving into the Five Man Electrical Band. Whether or not the band was known personally to Chuck, the Staccatos unfortunately did not feature on the Big L playlist.

There was also a band named the Staccatos based in South Africa, but the 'Half Past Midnight' logo stamped on Chuck's Christmas card confirms that it was sent by the Canadians and the years is confirmed by the 'centennial' message. Canada became a nation on July 1st 1867 and so was celebrating its centenary in 1967.

In the 21st Century, the band continues to play and is celebrating 4 decades of making music.
