With the structure empty for 10 years the Dutch Government used the REM Island for oceanic survey work between 1974 - 2004 after which the REM island was advertised for sale

The REM Island was to remain in Flushing for some years
Bought by the Houthaven Development Project in 2008 (The Key) then towed the platform to Feerwerd in the Provence of Groningen, where the structure was rebuilt with extra space for restaurant and other facilities

6th September 2011 - Very interesting about the REM platform, in the two years I was off-shore I never heard it mentioned. In fact, your story today was the first I had heard about it! What an amazing story. I’d love to do a doco about it. What did REM stand for?- Ian MacRae
